About the Role

About This Opportunity

The Accra West zone is one of Telecel Ghana's most commercially significant territories — covering densely populated communities across the Greater Accra Region in a market where competition from MTN, AirtelTigo, and other operators is intense at both the subscriber acquisition and distribution levels. The Zonal Sales Manager for this territory carries direct accountability for subscriber growth, revenue generation, Telecel Cash distribution performance, and market share across the zone.

This is a field leadership role for a results-driven commercial professional who understands the mechanics of Ghana's prepaid airtime market, the dynamics of mobile money float management, and the management of freelancer and retailer distribution networks. Success here requires equal parts strategic planning and hands-on execution — the ability to set direction for a field team while also being present in the market, understanding what retailers and customers are experiencing on the ground.

The broader Telecel Ghana context adds urgency: the company is actively rebuilding its commercial position following its transition from Vodafone, and strong Zonal Sales Managers are central to that recovery across every region.

Role Purpose

To deliver Zonal Key Performance Indicators (Revenue, Reloads, Distribution, Sales) and grow market share.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for the growth of revenue in the area. To this end, the Manager is responsible for implementing sales strategy leading to the conversion of airtime into reloads in the region.

Responsible for acquisitions (Mobile, Telecel Cash, Fixed Fiber Broadband, SME) and acquisition revenues from the Region. The Manager is to ensure that subscriber growth targets for the region are met by working with freelancers and retailers.

Responsible for identifying and developing the various channels for acquisitions. The Zonal Sales Manager is responsible for the achievement of all Telecel Cash distribution KPIs (float & liquidity management, merchant and active agents).

Deliver training on product knowledge to agents prior to launch and then on a need-to basis thereafter.

Applying for This Role

  • Revenue numbers are your CV: Prepare specific performance data — subscriber acquisition figures, revenue growth percentages, Telecel Cash active agent and merchant counts, float liquidity improvements. These metrics are what the panel will ask for.
  • Distribution network experience: Demonstrate your experience managing and expanding airtime and mobile money distribution networks — recruiting retailers, managing float, driving merchant adoption.
  • Local market knowledge is a real advantage: Familiarity with the Accra West zone's key communities, retail concentration points, and competitive dynamics will signal genuine local relevance.
  • Team leadership examples: Prepare structured examples of how you have built, motivated, and managed geographically dispersed field sales teams — including how you handled underperformance and recognised top performers.

🔧 What Operations Hiring Managers Look For

Operations leaders hire for process thinking, cross-functional coordination, and measurable efficiency improvement. They want candidates who can diagnose bottlenecks, implement fixes, and sustain improvements without constant oversight — and who communicate trade-offs clearly before committing resources.

How to Stand Out
  • Lead with process improvement impact: throughput increased, error rate reduced, cost per unit lowered — numbers make the story concrete.
  • Show experience with ops tooling: project management software, ERP systems, BI dashboards, or workflow automation platforms.
  • Demonstrate cross-functional credibility: describe how you've worked alongside finance, sales, or engineering to implement an operational change.
  • Prepare a structured problem-solving example using a framework (5 Whys, DMAIC, A3) — ops interviews love process thinking made explicit.
Likely Interview Questions
  1. Walk me through a process you found and fixed — from identification to sustained improvement.
  2. How do you get buy-in from teams who are resistant to a process change?
  3. Describe how you'd prioritise three equally urgent operational problems with one team.
  4. How do you measure whether an operational improvement has actually stuck after 90 days?
Pro tip: Review Lean Six Sigma concepts (even at Yellow Belt level) before your interview — being able to name the methodology behind your process improvements adds professional credibility.
📄 About Full-Time Employment Roles

Full-time roles typically include benefits (health insurance, pension contributions, paid leave). During salary negotiation, always consider the total compensation package — benefits can be worth 20–30% on top of base salary. Ask specifically about probation period, performance review cadence, and remote/hybrid flexibility before signing.
